To acquire and develop the Craig Memorial Cemetery for the sole purpose of providing the lineal descendants of John Craig, William Speed Craig, and Arthur R. Criag with sites for the interring of its deceased members.
Please refer to our bylaws for the complete and detailed version of the text.
The cemetery is a focal point for our family. Though the land we love lies beneath the waters of the Keowee, there rests a small square of hallowed ground adjacent to Old Pickens that bears our name. Our loved ones rest atop that hill and so therefore does a part of each of us. Our story extends beyond and through that plot of land into our past and future.
The original board's purpose was to acquire and plan for the transition of the Craig Family Cemetery from the muddy hill adjacent to the Keowee River to a prominence above the shoreline of the new lake. The current members lovingly bear the responsibility to ensure the long-term viability and care for the gift with which we have been entrusted.
There are several roles in your family's cemetery board. All of which are detailed in our by-laws, but here's a short overview:
The most important are the primary board members elected by you - our adult family membership. These serve 5-year terms, 1 transitioning each year. One of our most important actions as a family is electing a new member to the cemetery board at each annual meeting. The chairman is elected from among the 5 board members by the board members themselves.
In addition to our board members and chairman, we have several positions appointed by the board. Those include the President, Vice President, Treasurer, and Secretary. They serve at the discretion of the board.
